We live in a time when it seems that everything must be replaced.
However, in interior design the opposite often happens.
Pieces with history usually provide a personality that is impossible to find in a piece of furniture that has just left the factory.
Therefore, whenever the state allows it, we like to recover what still has a lot to offer.
It's not about saving
There is the idea that restoring furniture is simply a way to spend less money.
In our case it happens exactly the other way around.
We chose to restore because we believe those pieces help build more authentic spaces.
Furthermore, the budget that we do not allocate to replace an element can be invested in other details that really add value to the project.
It is not an economic issue.
It's a question of design.
Each piece needs its own process
In this project we restored thirteen stools.
Each of them required several hours of work.
Sanding.
Preparation.
Color tests.
Painting.
Finishing.
The objective was never to hide the wood.
Quite the opposite.
We wanted to preserve her streak and allow her to continue being the protagonist.
Designing means making decisions
Finding the right finish was probably the hardest part.
The copper tone of the legs did not exist exactly as we imagined.
We had to search, test and combine materials until we achieved the desired result.
Something similar happened with wood.
We mix different colors and use a washing technique to provide a slight nuance without losing its natural appearance.
Because, sometimes, the best finish is the one that is almost not perceived.
Restoring is taking care
For us, restoring is not just about repairing a piece of furniture.
It means dedicating time to it.
Observe it.
Understand how you can be part of a new project.
And give it a second life while respecting its essence.
There are pieces that just need someone to look at them with different eyes again.
