An interior design and decoration project in which distribution, materials and small details come together to completely transform a space without losing its essence.
When a space needs more than a makeover
When we started working on Antojicos, the goal wasn’t simply to change the colours or decorate a café. We needed to make the space work better, increase its storage capacity and, at the same time, give it an identity of its own.
The inspiration came from a Parisian-style café, warm and welcoming, but we wanted to take it in a more personal direction, combining that character with natural materials, wood and a palette of soft tones.
The transformation started from the very foundations of the space.
Creating a new atmosphere through materials
One of the elements that gives the finished space much of its personality is the wood panelling.
We used pine wood to create the wall panelling and also to build different bespoke storage solutions.
The wood was treated using a washed-paint technique, looking for an imperfect, natural finish that would bring the vintage touch we wanted to achieve.
The dusty green tone became one of the key elements of the project, combined with sandy tones and wooden details.
The intention was to create a pleasant, bright space with character, without making it feel overly new or artificial.
Design is also about finding solutions
In a small space, every centimetre counts.
That’s why part of the project involved finding new possibilities for existing elements and creating storage solutions that would keep everything organised without compromising the aesthetics.
The shelving was designed and adapted around the café’s real needs and the way the space would actually be used.
We also restored and transformed existing pieces, looking for ways to give them a new purpose within the space.
Because for me, design doesn’t always mean buying something new. Very often, it means looking at what we already have in a different way.
It’s the details that bring a space to life
Once the functional side had been resolved, it was time to work on all those small elements that make a space stop being simply functional and start developing its own personality.
Lighting, plants, textiles, decorative objects, signage and restored pieces were gradually introduced until everything came together as a cohesive whole.
At Antojicos, we wanted to create a café that felt welcoming, pleasant and distinctive. A place with a story of its own. And precisely for that reason, we weren’t looking for everything to be perfect. We wanted texture, wood, small imperfections and pieces with a lived-in feel.
From the process to the final result
The photographs of the process show a part of the project that usually remains hidden behind the finished result.
Protected walls, materials, tools, paint, dismantled furniture and many hours of work.
Because behind a finished space there is much more than a beautiful photograph.
There are decisions, trials, changes and solutions that gradually shape the project.
And that is precisely what I enjoy most about my work:
seeing an idea take shape until it becomes a real space.
Antojicos, a space with its own identity
The final result combines functionality, aesthetics and personality, making the most of the available resources and giving some of the existing elements in the café a new lease of life.
Antojicos has become a more organised, welcoming space, consistent with the image we wanted to convey.
A project in which every decision had a purpose.
Because in the end, for me, good design isn’t about filling a space with beautiful things, but about making sure everything has a purpose and a sense of place.
