When we visit a restaurant, a cafeteria or a finished home, we usually look at the result. The colors, lighting, furniture or small details that make a space pleasant.
However, what is rarely seen is everything that happens before.
Because a project does not begin when the painters arrive or when the last decorative elements are placed.
Start much earlier.
Start with an idea.
With a notebook full of notes.
With material samples.
With color tests.
With decisions that, although they may seem small, will end up defining the personality of the space.
Each project has its own identity
At Espacios con Firma we do not seek to reproduce spaces that already exist.
Each project is born from scratch.
That means observing the place, understanding who is going to enjoy it, and asking ourselves what we want a person to feel when they first enter.
In a recent renovation we decided to make the table envelopes instead of buying them already finished.
It was not an economic decision.
It was a design decision.
We wanted that space to have its own personality.
That the tables did not seem chosen from a catalog, but rather designed exclusively for that project.
Designing is also manufacturing
Many times the design does not end in a plan or an infographic.
Continue in the workshop.
There are pieces that do not exist exactly as we imagine them.
And when that happens, we prefer to create them.
Each wooden envelope was prepared, treated and finished by hand until we achieved the look we were looking for.
Because design is also about deciding what is worth building from scratch.
The perfect color almost never exists
One of the most complex parts of any project is getting exactly the tone we imagine.
In this case, the wood finish did not come from a single paint can.
It was the result of mixing different shades of chalk paint and subsequently applying a washing technique that kept the natural grain visible.
The painting should not be the protagonist.
Just provide a nuance that will help create a warm, delicate and natural atmosphere.
What does not appear in the photographs
There are decisions that are never seen.
Test hours.
The mixtures.
Changes of mind.
Work days.
Tired hands after sanding for hours.
But all that is also part of the project.
Because design is not only about achieving a good result.
It consists of taking care of each step until you reach it.
